Photophysics of preassociated pyrenes in aqueous polymer solutions and in other organized media
Article Abstract:
The important photophysical properties of pyrenes in organized media and the structure, synthesis and spectroscopic characteristics of the pyrene-labeled water-soluble polymers are discussed. Primary photophysical parameters necessary in the detection of pyrene association prior to excitation or in the verification of the absence of agregated pyrenes were also defined. Five systems are used to illustrate the reliability of the information on the spectral properties of excimers originating from the preassociated pyrenes.

The photophysics, physical photochemistry, and related spectroscopy of thiocarbonyls
Article Abstract:
The physical and chemical aspects of target molecules in various electronic states can be studied using teraatomic thiocarbonyl models. Investigations on tetraatomic and larger molecules in cryogenic matrices and molecular beams are discussed. Cleavage reactions, intermolecular hydrogen abstractions, dimerization and oxidation of larger thiocarbonyls are also presented. Advanced laser pumping techniques and supersonic expansion techniques for van der Waals molecules and clusters led to recent developments in the field.

Low-lying electronic states, spectroscopy, and photophysics of linear para acenequinones
Article Abstract:
Sensitized excitation spectroscopy using a triplet-triplet energy transfer is used to determine the excited-state levels and photophysical features of para quinones of linear acenes. The spectroscopy of nine unsubstituted linear para acenequinones including p-benzoquinone, 1,4-naphthoquinone and 9,10-anthraquinone are given. The four low-lying excited states are detected. The excited state wave functions of the para quinones are analyzed on the basis of transition energies, polarization and oscillator strengths.
