Selective preparation of complex polycyclic molecules from acyclic precursors via radical mediated- or transition metal-catalyzed cascade reactions
Article Abstract:
Transition metal-catalyzed and radical-initiated reactions are two methods that are finding wide application in organic synthesis. These reactions require minimum conditions to proceed and exhibit chemo-, regio- and stereoselectivities and high synthetic performance. A major challenege in these reactions is the construction of complex molecules in a single operation. This review focuses on the possibility of using these methodologies to meet that challenge. The discussion includes the application of the methodologies for the selective preparation of complex polycyclic molecules from acyclic precursors.

Manganese(III)-based oxidative free-radical cyclizations
Article Abstract:
Radical cyclizations are transformations that result in the construction of cyclic compounds. Although these reactions exhibit high yields, they lead to more unfunctionalized than functionalized products. This review focuses on a strategy for solving that problem. The strategy involves oxidative manganese-based free-radical cyclizations of a variety of substrates including acids, unsaturated ketones and esters.
