Structure and bonding of molecules at aqueous surfaces

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the structure of aqueous surfaces, represented by water-vapor interface in the atmosphere and on the earth, at the molecular level using surface vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy is reviewed. Data on the vapor-water interface and water-immiscible organic solvent interface in relation to molecular properties and adsorbance behavior are also presented.

The dynamics of "stretched molecules": experimental studies of highly vibrationally excited molecules with stimulated emission pumping

Article Abstract:

This review elucidates the nature of molecules in "stretched states" as revealed by molecular dynamic studies using stimulated emission pumping technique, which yields vibrationally excited molecules possessing quantum selectivity. Results show the bond-making and bond-breaking processes in chemical reactions occur in a controlled and quatitative manner.

Motion and disorder in crystal structure analysis: measuring and distinguishing them

Article Abstract:

Technical barriers in the analysis of motion and disorder in crystal structures are evaluated. Recent advances point out that determination of the crystal structures over a range of temperatures and measuring temperature dependence of the amplitudes of the microscopic oscillators in quantum and classical regimes can now be determined.
