Temperature dependence of self-entanglements in protein backbones near the glass-like transition
Article Abstract:
Descriptors of mean shape other than those involving large anharmonic motions near the glass-like transition temperature may be better at detecting the transition. A property that is based on both the equilibrium geometry and backbone connectivity can show greater thermal fluctuation variations. Effects of bond length changes on the radius of gyration and the mean number of overcrossings. The change in Debye-Waller factors can be seen in the mean overcrossing numbers evaluated with the backbones. The approach works for following configuration transitions and to evaluate the effect of some external perturbations.

Bisthiosemicarbazones of 2,4-pentanedione are pyrazolines
Article Abstract:
Efforts to prepare 2,4-bisthiosemicarbamoylpentanediones from 2,4-pentanedione and three thiosemicarbazides, based on reactions in the literature, gave cyclic pyrazolines rather than the intended products. Other reactants were tried, and the product from 4-methylthiosemicarbazide, based on single-crystal X-ray study, had pyrazoline structure. Structure had been miscategorized in the past. Metal complexes of bisthiosemicarbazones have various medical uses.

Competitive study of Meisenheimer rearrangement in a substrate tertiary amine with allylic and propargylic moieties
Article Abstract:
A competitive examination of Meisenheimer rearrangement in a substrate tertiary amine with propargylic and allylic moieties has been carried out. Various allyl aryl propargyl amines were synthesized. Yield was 68-82%. The amines were treated with one equivalent of m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (m-CPBA) to give several compounds through Meisenheimer rearrangement. Yields were 79-90%.
