Chemistry of fruit flies

Article Abstract:

Chemical diversity in fruit fly secretions and volatile emissions were studied to find an effective, environmentally friendly method for controlling fruit fly population and growth. The research showed that more different paths are available for Dipteran species than the Lepidotran species, in which females of many species use blends of nearly the same compounds to attract conspecific males. Up to date data on the fruit fly chemistry for the developmental and biological assays of species specific pheromones is discussed.

Iron in asbestos chemistry and carcinogenicity

Article Abstract:

Examination of the function of iron in the chemical and physiological reactions of asbestos reveal that iron in asbestos is responsible for the pathological effects of asbestos. X-ray studies help determine the structures of erionite and asbestos. Analysis of the involvement of physical characteristics of asbestos fibers in carcinogenesis indicates that carcinogenicity of the asbestos fibers are influenced by their size and durability. Various methods are suggested to make the asbestos fibers biologically inactive.
