Fluid and solid fibers made of lipid molecular bilayers
Article Abstract:
A discussion on the different elongated and micellar and vesicle systems in both the fluid and solid state is presented. The formation of rods and tubules is traced to molecular interactions and the shape-dependent energies is justified by bending elasticity. Helix formation of a fiber of isotropic circular cross section can be explained in terms of the elastic energies. The elastic theory for the helical fibers and the hybrid theory of helix formation are used to expalin the observed phenomena.

Molecular electric moments from X-ray diffraction data
Article Abstract:
X-ray and neutron diffraction studies could be used in determining electric dipole and quadrupole moment measurements. Second moments derived from these interactions served as efficient bases for evaluating the properties of diffraction results. Data indicated that the direction and magnitude of the dipole moment, which represented crystal intermolecular processes, were readily observed. Similarly, quadrupole and second moments also manifested intermolecular interaction processes.

Spectral hole-burning spectroscopy in amorphous molecular solids and proteins
Article Abstract:
A survey of the the applications of spectral hole burning to fumdamental and applied problems is presented. A theory on spectral hole burning is developed and presented. The theory shows that for strong electron-phonon coupling, the burn frequency dependence of the hole profile leads to the determination of the site inhomogenous broadening. It is also suggested that the application of hole burning to investigate glass properties.
