Ultrafast solvation dynamics explored by femtosecond photon echo spectroscopies

Article Abstract:

Various sorts of photon echo exist, among them time-gated, time-integrated and heterodyne-detected. Fourier transform spectral interferometry is also of interest. Optical dynamics and chemical reaction in the liquid phase are much affected by specific solute-solvent interactions. The dynamical part of the coupling leads to energy fluctuations. Related energy gap dynamics can be probed through use of the several nonlinear optical spectroscopies mentioned. Echo-peak shift experiments on the hydrated electron have produced results, and the photon echo is likely to be useful in the future as a novel tool for exploring transition state dynamics. Applications will be in various areas, among them enhanced vibrational mode suppression and dynamical Stokes shift.

Femtosecond dynamics of electrons on surfaces and at interfaces

Article Abstract:

Dynamics of electrons on surfaces and at interfaces are more easily studied since the development of two-photon photoemission. An excited electronic surface distribution is created with use of a femtosecond laser, which also causes distribution to be pulled out for later energy analysis. Electron dynamics at the interface are affected by dielectric screening, polaron formation, substrate and adlayer band structures in the lattice of the layer on top. At insulator/metal interfaces, dynamics of an excess of electrons are affected most by adsorbate electron affinity.

Some pleasures in chemical Physics

Article Abstract:

The theoretical work on the interpretation of the parameters that were extracted from radio and microwave frequency spectroscopy performed by Richard Bersohn at Cornell, is presented. His various other experiments and the description are divided into subjects, which would help to follow science.
