Regioselectivity of the reactions of heteroatom-stabilized allyl anions with electrophiles
Article Abstract:
Still and Macdonald's rule of thumb is useful in predicting the orientation of electrophilic attack. However, it does not apply to allyl anions substituted by strong electron-withdrawing groups. Other factors, such as ionizing cosolvents or steric effects also modify the rule. Gompper and Wagner's allopolarization principle was applied to kinetically controlled reactions. The change of the selectivity of a reaction is rationalized as a function of a change in polarity of the ambident anion.

Tandem reaction sequences under hydroformylation conditions: new synthetic applications of transition metal catalysis
Article Abstract:
A discussion of examples of two or more step conversions of unsaturated compounds under hydroformylation involving hydrocarbonylation first and then further conversions of intermediates or the aldehyde product is presented. It is concluded that transition metal catalyzed carbonylation sequences are a significant tool in the construction of new carbon skeletons.
