Clicking in Hollywood: portable computing in the entertainment industry
Article Abstract:
Portable computers already are impacting the entertainment industry's ability to communicate with its audience in film, television and music. Computer screens and TV monitors enhanced nearly every scene of the recent film, 'Contact.' Steven Fazekas, an independent film producer who commutes between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, communicates daily with major movie studios via a laptop. Actor Zen Gesner stars in the South Africa-based 'The Adventures of Sinbad' action/adventure TV show, but uses a laptop for professional and personal contacts. Popular recording music artist Todd Rundgren is a longtime PC programmer who in 1995 introduced an interactive music CD, 'The Individualist.' CD-ROM drive users have the extra option of viewing The Individualist's full-length visual experiences, plus access to interactive lyrics and music-video directing. A TV game show developed by Merv Griffin and Merv Griffin Entertainment, Click, targets young laptop users with a question-and-answer format and computer screen layout.
