Compaq Services div. continues its course

Compaq Computer Corp has given assurances that it will continue support for Digital Equipment Corp's Unix system and would maintain relationships with business partners of the former Digital Multivendor Customer Services. IDC analyst Doug Chandler said that Compaq wanted to make sure that there would be no large-scale migration to HP or IBM by Digital Unix users. The company has also experienced increased pressure from the market. For instance, IBM had a strong presence at the annual conference of DECUS, the Digital user group.

Brand loyalty pays off for sheriffs

The Sheriff's Dept of San Diego, CA, has stuck with Digital Equipment Corp for its supplies of hardware and for hardware support and services. The arrangement, which has progressed from only two Wang word processors in 1986 to 1,400 PCs, laptops and workstations, has resulted in a simplified vendor relationship, constant performance from the systems and superlative service. The department vows to continue working with vendors to accomplish major changes across its 38 facilities.
