Copiers: Competition is Improving Performance
Article Abstract:
Operator convenience, vendor business strategies, and technology have caused many changes in the copier industry. Among operator convenience features offered are duplexing, zoom lens designs, disposable operating modules, limitless copying, and enhanced software and microchip controls providing more automation and less operator involvement. Other features not so highly regarded include audible warning signals, automatic diagnostic malfunction display, energy-saving mode, dual copy paper mode, and simulated voice instruction. Kodak, Canon and Xerox have increased business strategies to combat Japanese competition. Future technologies may produce laser-driven processors and an off-line printer that doubles as a stand-alone copier. Photographs of available copiers and a buyers guide are included.
