HP's photo finish
Article Abstract:
Antonio Perez views his position as vice president of HP's consumer products division as an important opportunity to oversee the company's expanded marketing efforts for its line of digital imaging and photographic technologies. Analysts predict that the market for digital imaging products will grow exponentially as computers are adopted by increasingly diverse segments in a variety of global markets, making potential opportunities in the field extremely lucrative. The shift in technology development has resulted in some fundamental changes in HP's business approach, and the company will market its digital imaging solutions to general consumers more aggressively than in the past. HP's push toward making these digital editing products available and useful to mainstream computer users is likely to be followed by numerous other companies.

Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball
Article Abstract:
Microsoft's $84.95 IntelliMouse Trackball external pointing device offers an alternative to the traditional mouse for connecting an external pointing device to a notebook computer and is very simple to install and use. It disables the notebook's internal pointing device, but remains convenient for those with limited desk space. The unit is precise and comfortable, with a superb 'Intelliwheel' that provides a good ratcheting feel. Microsoft's Intellipoint technology allows quick scrolling through files with the aid of a small wheel next to the ball, and there is an Auto-Scroll feature that can scroll without even spinning the wheel. Extended use can make a user's wrist stiff, and the plastic trackball surface is slippery.
