Long-Distance Telephone Service Alternatives
Article Abstract:
Currently, in addition to AT&T, there are five other common carriers (OCCs). They are Sprint from GTE, Longer Distance from ITT, Execunet from MCI, MetroFone from Western Union, and SBS Skyline from Satellite Business Systems. Heavy competition offers great savings to customers. The five are discussed and compared in regard to WATS service, travel plans, international calling, long distance costs, connections, equal access, and fraud prevention. It is felt that the OCCs will survive. However, with new incentives by AT&T, consumers should remain cautious about its smaller competitors. Charts comparing the services are included.
