Marketing the Art of Strategic Planning Through Simulation
Article Abstract:
Senior managers can improve their creative and strategic planning abilities by participating in New York University's Financial Services Industry (FSI) behavioral simulation program. The management development program is a three-day in-service training program that replicates a work day for senior level management in a fictitious company. Goal-setting, role-playing, and feedback by observers are involved in the program. Central to the program is a learning contract or verbal agreement between participant and observer spelling out goals the participant has for the program. Participants receive an IBM PC-compatible disk containing an assessment of their financial performance based on decisions made during the simulation. An outline of activities for the three-day simulation is included. Sample organization charts are included.

Visible Systems for Accurate Recordkeeping
Article Abstract:
Major savings in time can be generated by displaying and coding files so that they can be retrieved easily on visual inspection. Color coding is the single most helpful tool. The Spacefinder system by Tab Products employs Compu-Color folders that may be filed numerically or alphabetically with the characters color-coded. A misplaced file is noticed immediately. Datafile's File Room On-Line Information Control optical character recognition system integrates hard copy color-coded files with a computer system. The Chemical Bank of New York uses Tab's color-coding for their distributed computer tape files. Mixed media filing systems are becoming more widely used. Photographs plus a guide listing the companies and their filing system products are presented.

Visible Recordkeeping - Easier than Ever
Article Abstract:
The high cost of filing and record keeping is labor-expensive. The reduction of labor costs may be achieved by various systems of visible record keeping. Color coding is an important factor in providing efficient access to files. Today's systems require storage for both hard copy and electronic information. A listing of major vendors and descriptions of their visible record systems are included. Color photographs of installations are featured. An insert describes computer-media storage equipment. A needs-checklist is provided for use in comparison of features of equipment and products on the market.
