ObjectDancer 1.1
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of PaceWorks' ObjectDancer 1.1 is presented. The Macintosh-based software sells for $445 and is a well designed animation creation tool for on-line and off-line delivery. Impressive time-based control over audio, text, video and bitmap graphics is included in ObjectDancer. One of the software's best features is its ability to create basic animations without requiring users to study the manual. Multilevel text decomposition truly sets ObjectDancer apart from the competition. Additional great features include libraries that store time- and visual-alignment capabilities as well as frequently used dances. The software's audio features quite flexible and the multitrack audio support allows users to layer sounds on top of one another. Gaps in the software include a lack of basic image-editing and creation functions. Also, users cannot import a custom palette prior to creating an animation.

Premiere grows up
Article Abstract:
Adobe Systems' Premiere 5.0 desktop video software offers an alternative to the high-end desktop video-editing systems available from Scitex, Avid and Media 100. The software, set to ship in May 1998, includes an Adobe After Effects-influenced Project window that provides lists, icons and a thumbnail view of all the source files. The new dual-view Monitor window allows users to view the current source file while a second window displays the new composition bing created. Also included in the new Monitor window is a redesigned Timeline, which includes support for three-point editing, a feature previously available only in high-end systems. The software also includes a media abstraction layer and plug-in architecture.
