Office Health Hazards Plague Millions, Says Government Report - VDT Use Spurs Increased Awareness
Article Abstract:
According to a report by the government's Office of Technology Assessment, the introduction of new technologies into the office environment is causing health hazards to millions of office workers. VDT's are responsible for the awareness of the health issues. Problems in the work environment can be complaints of tiredness, irritation, and eye strain. Poor lighting, poor-quality displays, boring, repetitive jobs, and poorly-designed workstations and chairs contribute to stress for office workers. Radiation levels have been found to be below applicable safety standards, but whether this eliminates concern for VDT users to get cataracts or have reproductive problems is still questionable. The added complaints of indoor air pollution and psychological stress in work environments that are computerized can result in costly lost work days.
