QuickDraw 3D vs. OpenGL: accelerating the 3D interface

Article Abstract:

Apple's QuickDraw 3D and Microsoft's OpenGL technologies provide system architectures for representing 3D objects, textures and lighting and are designed for cross-application integration and compatibility. OpenGL has additional advanced features such as alpha blending, motion blur and fog. QuickDraw resides as an extension in the system folder of the computer. QuickDraw is supported by many hardware and software companies, and dedicated accelerator boards featuring QuickDraw cost between $350 and $2,500 are available in the market. QuickDraw is also featured in some video display boards. OpenGL gets the support of more vendors than QuickDraw, and accelerator boards with integrated display and OpenGL are available for prices starting at $250. Microsoft is testing a new cross-platform 3D architecture and media interface called Direct3D.

Many businesses are using facsimile equipment to enhance their text and graphic communications. Facsimile equipment by Panafax Corp. has been installed at Lone Star Industries, Unity Sewing Products Inc. and The Allen Group. These companies have found the equipment to be cost effective, reliable, fast and easy to operate. The equipment has helped in the transmission of financial data, increased sales and reduced labor costs. Expansion Interface Has Three Slots

Article Abstract:

Supposedly one of the most advanced expansion boards available, the Micro-X64 from Compuscope for the Commodore 64 is now on the market. It has three expansion slots: two for use with programs on a cartridge and the horizontal slot allowing 80 character cards. The board has a Pause switch, a non destructive reset button and a comprehensive users manual. A photograph of the product is included in the article.
