ROI in an online world
Article Abstract:
Companies should carefully examine the way they judge financial returns on Internet investments. For example, established companies extending their businesses onto the Web are inclined to regard their new operations as extensions of what they already do. But using traditional methods to calculate return on investment (ROI) in the Net environment can be misleading. When Net-only companies conduct business, they tend to be more open to new opportunities, creating new revenue streams and looking to investors and public markets for funding. If executives in a traditional company use ROI as a reason to curtail spending, time and energy will be wasted in battles over justifications for spending. In a worst-case scenario, this could happen at the very time online opportunities maximize.

Defining E-Business
Article Abstract:
An important distinction needs to be made between electronic commerce and electronic business. Electronic commerce refers to any business engaged in the purchasing or distribution of goods, services, or information via the Internet. Electronic business, however, may include these activities, but typically involves a complete reengineering of business processes. In electronic business, the key element is to ensure that the company's processes, from production to marketing and accounting, are linked and coordinated to legacy systems and overall business strategies. In e-business, all employees are connected via the company intranet, which is used extensively as a training and information-sharing forum.

The 180-degree effect
Article Abstract:
Normal business methods and practices do not often translate directly onto the World Wide Web. The Web creates the "180-degree effect" that defies typical business practices. The focus has shifted from the core product to quick market share and light speed product introduction. The direction from which business is being driven has changed dramatically with the use of the Web.
