Storage system uses MO discs, delivers HDD speed
Article Abstract:
Mitsubishi Chemical Corp., Kubota Corp. and NCR Japan Ltd. have jointly developed a rapid data storage system that utilizes an automatic magneto-optical (MO) disc changer. The system consists of two 5.25-in MO drives, a Hyper Agent dedicated controller and an automatic MO changer, which contains 40 MO discs. The system has a 100GB capacity and a hard disc drive built into the controller as a large-capacity cache gives the system a response time equivalent to that of a hard disc drive. The cache has an average capacity of 36GB and a maximum capacity of 90GB.
