Telecommunications

Article Abstract:

Network communications managers must become familiar with AT&T Communications' private line tariff structure terminology. LATAs (Local Access and Transport Area) are specified for serving designated local areas. A POI (Point of Interface) is the connection point between a local area and AT&T-COM. Terminating Channels (TC), LATA Distribution Channels (LDS), and Inter-Office Channels (IOC) are components of rate center-pricing service office connections. A Total Service Circuit order, procured through Plan A of the Provisioning Arrangements, permits AT&T to provide and bill all telecommunication components. B and C allow more user responsibility and confusion. A Transport Circuit-only order may be ordered by sophisticated users.

Telecommunications

Article Abstract:

Data communications networks need to be administered as any other company asset. Network management falls into four areas. Network control is either delegated and therefore supplied by vendors of public networks like Telenet, or assumed and requiring control systems. Managers must monitor performance either by vendor- supplied analytical tools or by customized use of distributed software. A third area is structure control, the control of interconnections such as switches, multiplexors, and processors. Planning for growth stress and technology innovations is an equally important fourth area.
