The Fight for Jobs
Article Abstract:
Because the economic climate has often been hard in the United Kingdom in the last few years, the fight for jobs for areas within the country has intensified. The areas in the UK promoting their business environment has increased by thirty percent. The Northampton Development Corporation is featured as a group dedicated to the development of industry and commerce in one of the most densely populated areas of the UK. Its goal is to widen the economic base, encourage population shifts and stress the advantages of Northampton as a center hub. Northhampton is being marketed as a product, rather than a series of offices and factories needing to be filled. The entire marketing campaign reflects a dedication to cost containment and a corporate style promotional campaign. The results include more than 300 new firms, 18,000 jobs and nine million square feet of new facilities.

Are Middle Management Jobs in Jeopardy?
Article Abstract:
There is concern that office automation (OA) is threatening middle management jobs. J.R. Little states that OA will open new career paths, especially in information management. Raymond Panko feels that middle management may be reduced because of a trend toward reducing the number of management levels. Lawrence Lynette adds that proliferating stand-alone systems interacting directly with each other instead of through management channels are having an effect. Elio Rotolo believes that middle management will be better equipped for decision making if they prepare themselves. According to Leo Ruffini, networking will require middle management to adapt to a more participative style.
