Today's Top Energy Manager? The Computer
Article Abstract:
The cost of energy to building owners has risen to one dollar and eighty five cents per square foot. However eighty per cent of mid sized buildings have no energy plans, primarily because energy systems cost money and unfamiliarity with technology. Technological energy management progressed from pneumatic switching to direct digital control to distributed processing. Constant monitoring and automatic control of electricity is necessary. 'Intelligent building' describes buildings where all energy using systems, such as heating, air conditioning, telephones and elevators are managed. The Building Services division of Honeywell has developed DPS-6, and Servicenet, an energy management network run from one location. Honeywell promises energy savings, low fees that will be absorbed by the savings and constant monitoring. A diagram of the Honeywell system is included.
