Article Abstract:
The design and construction of community housing at Arlington Road in London is described. The architect was Heinz Richardson Jestico and Whiles and the client was the Community Housing Association, which provides affordable rented housing in central London. Low maintenance materials were used including brick, steel, render and reconstituted stone copings. The L-shaped building was located next to the site edge and pavement line enabling the creation of a secure communal garden to the rear.

Article Abstract:
The new office building for Pfizer at Sandwich in Kent is contained in a pair of interlocking four storey blocks. The new restaurant and kitchen are contained in a ciruclar building, incorporating a dining area with a single servery point. The building was designed to avoid vulnerability to flooding from the high downstream river flows and tidal surges in the North Sea. Drainage is suspended rigidly from the ground floor and reinforced concrete is used in the structural frame.

The DoE's new headquarters in central London is one of the most environment friendly buildings in the city, incorporating curtain waling which controls the internal climate and a heat and power cogeneration plant. It features a sloping glass roof and two atria internally. The cogeneration plant provides around 50% of the buildings electrical needs and waste heat provides winter space heating.
