Article Abstract:

Concrete blocks and timber frame components are used more than bricks for the inner leaf of cavity walls in housing. Clay pavers are however often used as an alternative to concrete block paving. They offer good traction, and rapid drainage and are hardwearing. Flexible paving means that pavers can be bedded on sand and a vibrating plate compacts the surface.

Article Abstract:

The brick industry saw volume fall 40% during the recession and production continually exceed orders. Production and sales increased in 1994 and the industry is expected to be able to meet dispatches of 3.5 billion in 1995. Concrete block producers are often called on to meet shortages, when clay brick production falls short of demand.

Not just a pretty face: brick as a structural material was usurped by concrete in the post-ware period, but a comeback is planned for the 1990s

Article Abstract:

Brick is being re-established as a structural material helped by the Brick Development Association which empahsises that brick offers both performance and aesthetic appeal. The BDA also believes that brick can offer cost savings. Bricks are becoming more popular in retaining walls, freestanding walls and short-span bridges.
