Article Abstract:
At the African Aviary at Regent's Park, London, UK the design brief aimed to allow maximum viewing for visitors. Single parallel wires were used for the flight cage structure. Features include a waterfall, wetlands area, caves and rockwork. The aviary was completed in 1990 at a cost of over 520 pounds sterling per metre squared. Whipsnade Children's Farm was developed to allow children to come into close contact with rare breeds of domestic animals. The building was completed in 1991 at a cost of over 314 pounds sterling per metre squared.

Ormskirk fire station
Article Abstract:
Ormskirk, Lancashire, England's new fire station has been built on the site of the previous station and in a style sympathetic to the surrounding Victorian and 1930s housing. The station houses two appliances, offices, recreation facilities and a workshop as well as a display area for a historic fire tender. Designed by the county council's Architects' Design Practice, it follows a tested layout but allows room for expansion. The building cost 774.46 pounds sterling per sq meter with the slate roof being the most expensive single element.
