Article Abstract:
Brindleyplace, Birmingham, England, is a 17 acre area which has been designated for new offices, leisure facilities, shops, housing and galleries. The area has been designed to include landscaped features such as trees, fountains and lawns with the buildings mainly clad in locally produced bricks. The first office building has been constructed of red brick, it comprises of a space of 68,600 square feet and has five floors. Facilities for leisure actives and residential houses have already been completed and further construction work should be finished in June 1997.

Contractors working on Birmingham's Brindleyplace development are using video conferencing technology to improve their communication links. Contractor HBG is trialing the use of video conferencing in business for Loughborough University of Technology, which is undertaking a project called ISoCCCrates (Improving the Supply Chain Communications in Construction). HBG has equipment at its London HQ and at the construction site, while client Argent uses video conferencing to communicate between offices and with HBG.
