PhoneFree hits radio, TV to build database

Article Abstract:

PhoneFree.com, which offers free long-distance telephone services via the Internet, has started a direct response radio campaign to build its database and suppor electronic marketing efforts. Those who avail of PhoneFree's services are required to submit the e-mail addresses of six other persons who might want to use the service. PhoneFree would then send e-mail and an electronic newsletter to those referrals. Geoff Hatheway, PhoneFree's VP for marketing, expects the company to distribute 150 to 200 million e-mail in 2000.

Newsletter, registry seek to hitch brides

Los Angeles, CA-based WeddingChannel.com unveiled an electronic newsletter and bridal registry as part of its strategy to improve relations with bridal registrants and newlyweds. The monthly newsletter will be compiled with the help of sources from both WeddingChannel.com and Bride's magazine, a publication of Conde nast, NY. Meanwhile, WeddingChannel.com's deal with Cincinnati, OH-based Federated Department Stores Inc will allow bridal registries of Federated's stores to be featured into the online wedding planning site.

CFN lets consumers decide what's the best deal

The Consumer Financial Network will drop 1.2 million direct mail pieces in Oct 1999 to trumpet its financial services website, YouDecide.com. The mailing is part of a $10 million direct response campaign created by DMW Woldwide New York. YouDecide.com allows consumers to shop for financial products such as insurance and loans. The site has a network of providers, giving consumers an opportunity to comparison shop and hunt for the best deal.
