City faces 15m pounds sterling overrun on Guildhall

Article Abstract:

An archaeological dig hampered progress on City Corp's Guildhall Yard office and museum project in London, England, and further problems have been caused by the collapse of DY Davies, the architectural firm working on the project. The scheme was originally budgeted to cost 55 million pounds sterling, but this could now rise to up to 70 million pounds sterling. It is set for completion in Apr 1998, six months behind schedule. Contractor Mowlem plans to claim up to 7 million pounds sterling after having suffered delays.

D&B shackles claim second victim

Article Abstract:

The procurement system created by Capital and Counties, the developer and project manager for insurance concern Sun Life, has caused considerable problems with Amec's work on a headquarters building in Bristol, England, for Sun Life. Amec agreed to a strictly controlled develop-and-construct form of contract, in which a lump sum price was fixed. It now claims to have made losses of up to 5 million pounds sterling, and the project will be completed five months late.
