The new generation of Structural Eurocodes
Article Abstract:
The first Eurocodes for reinforced concrete and steel structures have been published in ENV format. The codes have been designed to be readily accepted by industry in all the member countries of the European Community. Their publication as ENVs allows them to be used practically while still on a trial basis. Comments from users in all sectors of the industry are needed to ensure the codes are balanced and practical. The publications are described together with related legislation and supporting documents.

Collateral damage
Article Abstract:
The British Property Federation (BPF) has produced a draft collateral warranty in 1998 which may lead to charges of unbalanced decisions. One of the major concerns the new draft has raised is the issue of how many warranties can be assigned for an individual tenant. The industry view appears to favour one warranty although the new draft recommends up to four. Changes to the clause concerning deleterious materials has also caused concerns in the industry, due to the ambiguous nature of the recommendations.
