Consumers spoiled after '99 holiday season

Online retailers went heavy with promotions during the 1999 holiday season but this could have created consumer expectations that are hard to maintain. In a survey conducted by Cognitiative Inc, majority of respondents said they have made purchases at sites that offered incentives such as free shipping and online coupons. The survey also found out that more than 31% of consumers expect the promotions to continue.

Amazon gets into the movie business

Amazon.com has added a channel to its Web site called In Theatres that lets visitors view movie times and see film reviews. This expands the online retailer's recent venture into movie marketing. The movie channel was created with the help of the company's subsidiary, IMDb.com, which provides information on about 250,000 movie titles and houses a database of other entertainment resources.

High fashion e-tailer shutters

Luxlook.com, a Web retailer specializing in fashion lines such as Versace, Moschino and Vivienne Westwood, has announced that it will officially cease operations in the US and UK in the last week of May 2001. The total number of layoffs associated with the announcement was not disclosed, However, the company will lay off at least 70 employees as it closed its New York Office.
