Experienced gained during the development of Prudential Banking's call centre in Dudley, England, proved valuable for the development team responsible for Egg's communications centre in Derby, England. It was clear that staff retention rates are boosted by offering high quality facilities and that a single large floorplate is best for new call centres. Flexible training and support rooms can be a major asset in a call centre. A model retail banking call centre is smaller than the Egg building, reflecting the trend for smaller centres.

Cost study

Article Abstract:

The design and construction of the Mersey Valley Processing Centre, Widnes, England has won a Construction Industry Award and a RIBA award. It was designed by architects Austin-Smith:Lord for the United Utilities, previously known as North West Water. The treatment plant has been built to require little maintenance but is very durable. It will treat and incinerate sewerage to meet new European Union standards. The cost of the new building was 12 million pounds sterling and it took 22 months to complete.
