Hemel Hempstead sports centre in Hertfordshire, England, has been refurbished with help from the National Lottery. The refurbishment cost for the building, which has seven swimming pools, plus dry sports facilities and a sports hall, is estimated to total 5.76 million pounds sterling. Since its facelift, attendance at the sports centre has risen by 80%.

The conversion of the Cruciform Building for University College London is the first private finance initiative in higher education. The listed Victorian hospital has been converted to provide teaching and research facilities for the Royal Free and University College medical schools at a cost of 28.4 million pounds sterling.
