Cost study
Article Abstract:
The National Energy Centre, Milton Keynes, incorporates an exhibition area with office space. The architects Weston Williamson had to create a low energy building which would receive a high rating on the Building Research Establishment Energy Assessment Method scale. The cost of the 1000 m2 building was less than the average for headquarters buildings, at 959 pounds sterling per m2. The cost of the completed building was within 5% of the bid price. It took 43 weeks to complete. The building included good insulation, with natural ventilation and limited the need for artificial lighting.
