Drawing hidden meaning
Article Abstract:
The construction industry's standard contract form JCT80 is widely understood by those who use it, but it contains some clauses that fail to conform with normal industry practice. One such example is clause 5.4, which requires the architect to provide all the drawings necessary for the contractor to properly complete the job, including those from subcontractors. If subcontractors fail to produce drawings, employers who do not understand how the industry operates may question JCT's relevance. To correct these confusions, JCT80 should be reviewed and brought into line with current practice.
