Ergonomic standards plan in N.C. is criticized

The plan of the North Carolina Dept of Labor to create an ergonomic standard for boat builders in the state will create confusion and place the industry at a disadvantage. North Carolina Marine Trade Assn executive director Mike Bradley, speaking at a public hearing in New Bern, NC, on May 25, 1999, said that the creation of a national standard that discusses apects of competition should be left to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Albemarle christens new Edenton facility
Article Abstract:
Albemarle Sportfishing Boats has relocated to a new corporate headquarters and manufacturing plant in Edenton, NC. The new facility is just a few miles from the previous one that used to house the company since it was established in 1978. It has twice the floor space as the old facility, and can accomodate the new 41-foot Express Fisherman model. Albemarle is a family-owned business, and produces offshore fishing boats from 24 to 41 ft long.

Custom builder adding volume

Davis Boatworks plans to increase boat production by 25 to 30 units annually after undertaking an expansion program for its manufacturing facility. The company is making the transition from a low-volume custom boat builder into a semi-custom builder that can build sportsfishing yachts up to 75 ft. CEO Buddy Davis says the expansion program will be accompanied by an aggressive marketing campaign unparalleled in the company's 25-year history.
