Goodbye Brookside, hello Ambridge

Article Abstract:

Housing developers are using village architecture in their new housing developments. The villages incorporate various styles of houses rather than housing estates which are full of similar types of houses. There is some concern whether the new villages will be sustainable. Many homebuyers have an idealistic view of village life. Cambourne, Cambridge, England, has been built by Bovis Homes, Bryant Homes and Alfred McAlpine Homes. It includes 3,300 houses and other facilities such as schools and a library. There is also a nearby business park.

Space craft

Article Abstract:

There is growing demand from housebuyers for flexible accommodation that will meet their changing needs. To meet such demands, architect Will Alsop and residential developer Roger Zogolovitch have designed an innovative apartment block based on the concept of zone-living. The Bategg apartment block contains 40 residential units with separate zones that can be used by a multi-generation family for working and living. The designers have received planning permission for their building and are seeking financial backing.

As unlike Ballykissangel as you can get

Article Abstract:

Work is due to start on remodeling the houses on Ballymun housing estate, Dublin, Ireland. The estate was built in the 1960s and has suffered from having a poor reputation. It includes some 2,800 houses. Once the work is completed a number of the houses will be sold. Some 13 different architects have been designated specific areas within the housing estate to increase the sense of community on the estate. All of the houses must include some environmental features, such as low energy lighting and passive ventilation.
