HSN, Comcast argue over carriage in Miami
Article Abstract:
Home Shopping Network (HSN) of St. Petersburg, FL, was dropped in June 1998 when WAMI-TV Channel 69, the local station that carried the channel, changed formats to local newscasts and talk shows. The independent station, owned by USA Networks Inc., shifted from home shopping as part of the "City Vision" experiment by USA Networks CEO and Chairman Barry Diller. The format change has reportedly resulted in a lawsuit by Philadelphia, PA-based Comcast Corp., which operates a cable system in the area. HSN, meanwhile, has filed a suit against Comcast in allegations that the cable operator dropped the home channel because it competes with QVC Inc., which is majority owned by Comcast.
