Happy Holliday
Article Abstract:
Admiral Homes, housebuilder set up in May 1989, will achieve its target of 350 houses in the 12 months to April 1992, and has performed very well so far as a new company in a time of recession, according to chief executive David Holliday, who is also president of the House Builders Federation (HBF). It aims to sell 500 houses in the year to April 1994, and points to signs that the recession is now beginning to ease, but Holliday still believes that the government should urgently address the issue of land provision, which could have a very negative impact on economic development. Holliday's contribution to the HBF is also discussed.

Article Abstract:
The San Francisco City Hall is undergoing an extensive seismic retrofit to protect it from being damaged by a serious earthquake. Base isolators, which are normally only installed into new structures, are being used in the 80-year-old building to protect it from severe ground movements. The project has been given a very tight deadline for completion due to economic pressures on government departments. If an earthquake occurs before the retrofit work is completed, the building is more susceptible to damage, although engineers have stabilised the structure as much as possible.
