Hooray for Holyrood
Article Abstract:
The Holyrood Project, an urban regeneration scheme in Edinburgh, Scotland, covers a 5.4 ha area made up of 23 sites. This scheme, costing more than 150 million pounds sterling, is one of the largest of its kind in Scotland. There are four main sites, where there will be a mix of uses and range of architectural styles. This is seen particularly at the northern site, which has been subdivided into 20 individual development plots. Apart from the Scottish parliament, the project relies mainly on private and voluntary sector funding.

The magic roundabout
Article Abstract:
The new 38 million pounds sterling Edinburgh International Conference Centre, designed by Terry Farrell and Partners, offers a high level of flexibility. It has a 1,200-seat auditorium which can be converted rapidly into three completely separate tiered auditoria seating 600, 300 and 300. This is the first example of turntable divisible auditoria in Europe. The design is unusual in that the main entrance is near the centre of the hall, with the seating stretching back on each side.
