How was IT for you?
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken by Building magazine indicates that there are very differing views about information technology (IT) within the UK construction industry. In particular, there are differences between what IT decision-makers plan to invest in and what their staff actually want. IT decision-makers are focusing spending on laptop and notebook computers, while their staff are not particularly interested in using this equipment. Voice-recognition software is not a priority for IT decision-makers, but is popular among IT enthusiasts. Training is a key issue for both groups.

Article Abstract:
Mike Fitzgerald, the unconventional vice-chancellor of the UK's Thames Valley University, is the inexperienced client co-ordinator of a 6 million pounds sterling learning resource centre, designed by architect Richard Rogers. Despite many delays, some client-contractor squabbling and time and money constraints, he is extremely happy with the completed building and feels that the project would have been significantly over-budget if it had been managed in any other way.
