Industry discriminates against women
Article Abstract:
Employers in the construction industry are still failing to offer equal opportunities to women, according to a report from the Chartered Institute of Building and the Institute for Employment Studies. There are still a number of barriers which hamper the entry of women to the construction industry, and women often find it harder than men to succeed within the industry. The Chartered Institute of Building is now making recommendations for encouraging more women to enter the industry.

Keeping up appearances. (design and build)
Article Abstract:
Reading university's report on design and build (D&B) found that D&B is faster than traditional procurement and is cheaper. Such projects are 50% more likely to be completed on time, although technical quality is generally lower. The report calls for a more design-led method of design and build and for contractors to offer clearly branded buildings and services.
