Kentucky Senate kills 'zero call' law

Article Abstract:

The Kentucky Senate has killed a proposed zero-call legislation after the state senate failed to act upon the bill before the end of the 2001 legislative session. The zero-call bill would allow people older than 65 to enroll in a do-not-call list that would restrict telemarketing calls. The Senate made amendments to the bill, including exemptions for telemarketers arranging personal visits and anybody with a 'reasonable belief' that a call would result in a sale.

Mississippi DNC bill dies in conference

Article Abstract:

Mississippi's do-not-call list bill failed to get legislative approval after both branches of the state legislature could not agree on the bill's final form. The House version exempts nonprofits and insurance, real estate and securities businesses and would be repealed by Jul 1, 2003. The bill also prohibits the use of automated dialing systems or any other system that uses recorded voice messages. These provisions were missing from the Senate version.
