Kmart and BASS are hooking up
Article Abstract:
Kmart Corp. of Troy, MI, partnered in April 1998 with Montgomery, AL-based Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS) to sponsor the fishing tournaments of the latter. Kmart divisional vice president Dan Head commented the company's move will propel its business in the bass and sportfishing sectors. Likewise, Kmart will promote the new BASS line, which will be featured in special displays at majority of the 2,200 outlets of the former. In addition, as a co-sponsor of the Casting Kids program of BASS, Kmart will host in-store fishing clinics for children. BASS, which reaches 10 million anglers annually, has 2,700 local chapters in 47 states.

Angler could reel in a $1M whopper
Article Abstract:
Operation Bass, based in Gilbertsville, KY, will host the Ranger Millenium Tournament in November 1999, which will award up to $1 million in cash and product prizes to the winning pro angler. The tournament, which will give away $250,000 in cash and prizes to an amateur co-angler, will be presented by Operations Bass with the help of its sister firm, the Ranger Boat Co. unit of Genmar Holdings Inc. in Flippin, AR. Ranger boat owners are the only eligible for the event. The Ranger Millenium Tournament underscores the desire of Genmar Holdings Chairman Irwin Jacobs to raise fishing from the level of participatory to spectator sport.

Go! Sailing II is scheduled July 25-26

Sail America, a Newport, RI-based sailing marketing group, will come up with its yearly Go! Sailing promotion on Jul. 25, 1998, to Jul. 26, 1998, to convince more people to try sailing. The campaign will offer demonstration rides through sailing schools and sailboat dealerships. Those who tried demonstration rides will give a $10 donation which will go to the Leukemia Society, the charity beneficiary and sponsor. Karen Kelly, executive director of Sail America, said around 250 schools and dealerships were expected to join the promotion.
