Light at the end of the tunnel?
Article Abstract:
The UK government is expected to decide the route of the proposed Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) in June 1998, after 10 years worth of deliberation by parties involved. The scheme is expected to cost about 5.4 billion pounds sterling, with the majority of financing coming from the private sector. The government must decide whether to choose a proposed Waterloo to Folkstone line, which would be constructed by London & Continental Railways to promote Eurostar or the alternative route which would provide much needed investment in areas surrounding several London stations.

Firms wary over 7bn pounds sterling Tube revamp
Article Abstract:
Some UK construction contractors and consultants believe that the government has not made available sufficient details about funding arrangements for the planned 7 billion pounds sterling refurbishment of the London Underground network. They feel that further information should be made available about the precise nature of the opportunities for the private sector. There is also a feeling that the government should consider more radical plans under which London Underground would become a more commercial organization.
