National Media stock rises as possible deal nears
Article Abstract:
National Media Corp., an infomercial marketing firm based in Philadelphia, PA, saw its stock rise to more than 450% during the two-week period after it announced that it may have found an investor. The company has reportedly signed a letter of intent with Premiere Radio Networks Inc. president and CEO Stephen C. Lehman, who is leading an investor group that would infuse about $30 million into the firm. National Media may have had several hot-selling infomercials, however, it has been struggling to turn up profits. The firm earlier posted losses of about $21.3 million for the period ending March 31, 1998.

It's time to put the 'direct' back into DTC
Article Abstract:
Direct-to-consumer television advertising of prescription drugs has caused a high degree of consumer confusion than marketers would like to see since the Food and Drug Administration allowed the practice in Aug 1997. This is because branded television ads are required to include detailed warnings, contraindications and adequate provisions. The emergence of the Internet, however, gives advertisers another tool to really build relationships with consumers.
