South African parcel service a success as private company

Speed Services Couriers, the privatized parcel division of the South African post office, boasts of growth as a private entity. The company presently makes 200 million rand ($40 million) annually and has an aircraft fleet which delivers to 1,385 points in South Africa. The service claims that it is now reaching 90% of its delivery standards. Among Speed Services Couriers' newest services include a special distribution system for medicines that allow call-in orders with next day delivery as well as a film developing service where film is processed then delivered immediately to customers.

Fedex and La Poste in parcel delivery deal
Article Abstract:
Chronopost and Federal Express have entered into an agreement in Sep 2000, to launch a joint parcel netwrok to strengthen their respective intra- European services. The deal will become effective on Jan 1, 2001, with Fedex processing express shipments for Chronopost to and from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Benelux, the UK, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark and Norway. Fedex customers are expected to gain from Chronopost International's ground operations that provide significant service enhancements.

UPS launches direct air service to China
Article Abstract:
United Parcel Service of America Inc (UPS) has launched direct service to China with the maiden voyage of the UPS China Express in Apr 2001. Atlanta, GA-based UPS is planning to deliver to every address in the People's Republic of China by year's end. The flights to China is expected to strengthen the company's global capablities, increase reliability and improve transit time for shipments. UPS will offer the broadest portfolio of services to customers shipping to and from China.
