Not old enough to know better
Article Abstract:
There is considerable frustration within the UK construction industry about the taskforce created by the Treasury to boost the private finance initiative (PFI). The taskforce was designed to speed up the closure of PFI deals, but some observers believe that it is actually slowing this process down. Some of its members have little experience in the sector, and this means that it is hard for them to make the very rapid decisions required by bidders. There is a strong feeling that the members of the task force should be older and more experienced.

Government creates PFI hit squad
Article Abstract:
The UK government has created a Treasury taskforce as a replacement for the semi-independent Private Finance Panel. This will report to Paymaster-General Geoffrey Robinson, and is part of plans by the government to streamline the private finance initiative. Moves will also be made to strengthen the private finance units of government departments, and efforts will be made to ensure that projects which are unsuitable for private finance will be spotted at an early stage.

Robinson prioritises 50 PFI projects
Article Abstract:
The UK's new Labour government is looking at prioritizing private finance initiative (PFI) schemes. New Paymaster-General Geoffrey Robinson has requested seven government departments to choose around six short-term PFI priority schemes, along with a larger number of medium-term priority projects. It is thought that he believes that the government should initially give 50 PFI projects very high priority. He is also to undertake a full-scale review of PFI activities.
