Federated will buy Fingerhut for $1.7B ?

Retail chain Federated Department Stores Inc of Cincinnati, OH, will acquire direct mail cataloger Fingerhut Companies Inc of Minnentonka, MN, for $21 per share or about $1.5 billion in cash. Under the deal, Federated will also assume $200 million of Fingerhut's debt. The acquisition is expected to boost Federated's electronic commerce and catalog business which currently accounts for only a small percentage of its $15.8-billion annual sales.

PGA Tour tees off with catalog

Article Abstract:

The PGA Tour will send 500,000 to 700,000 mailings beginning in mid-Mar 1999, its biggest catalog drop so far. At that rate, the organization is likely to drop up to 2 million catalogs by the end of 1999. The catalog, which was produced by Chicago, IL-based HALO Creative Concepts and Marketing, offers golf apparel and accessories, as well as hard goods such as licensed furniture and bookends.
