Prescott orders inquiry into 2000 village bust-up
Article Abstract:
The decision by architectural firm HTA to withdraw from the 250 million pounds sterling Greenwich Millennium Village has prompted UK Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to call for a full report into the scheme. HTA Director Ben Derbyshire has detailed alleged broken commitments on innovation and sustainability in the first two phases of development, which will begin by 2000. It is believed that HTA will take legal action against Greenwich Millennium Village for the return of the cost of hiring architects it thought it would require when formally appointed.

Housebuilders boost market morale
Article Abstract:
The House Builders Federation in the United Kingdom is attempting to stimulate the housing market by encouraging advertising and publicity campaigns rather than by blaming the Government for its lack of action. It hopes to join forces with the New Homes Marketing Board and building societies around the country to aid this process. Housebuilders feel that the market is improving and that the lowest point in the market has passed, although any increase in house prices will be a gradual process.

Optimism brings QS jobs drive
Article Abstract:
Leading quantity surveying practices in the UK are now becoming more optimistic about future workloads, and this is prompting them to take on more staff. There are considerable regional differences, but some feel that there could soon be a lack of suitable quantity surveyors. In contrast, demand for the services of architects is still patchy, with some still reporting only limited workflow.
