Article Abstract:
Kathryn Findlay, partner in the architect company Ushida Findlay, hopes to combine the best of Japanese architectural design with that found in the United Kingdom. Findlay, who is joint partner with her husband in Ushida Findlay, has worked in Japan since 1980. The company is expanding its operation to London whilst maintaining offices in Japan. Findlay feels that her husband's Japanese approach to architecture which focuses on technical capability and her more open approach make a good combination. The company has developed innovatory techniques in the construction of curved walls.

Concrete poet
Article Abstract:
Sir Denys Lasdun, has been an architect for 60 years and has designed many important and controversial buildings. Lasdun designed buildings in relation to nearby buildings but he has been criticised for ignoring the landscape surrounding a building. He is concerned that architects no longer have control of building projects and that public relations representatives are involved with the architect/client relationship. Lansdun, who is now 82, is being honoured by a retrospective of his work at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, United Kingdom during Feb 1997.
